Shrnutí: | Currently, minimally invasive dentistry has been studied and applied by dentists, as a way of treating the elements, aiming at their longevity and functional permanence in the oral cavity with the least possible tissue wear. Objective: to verify the number and retreatment decisions indicated for permanent teeth with restoration failures. Materials and methods: data from the medical records of patients treated at the Dentistry course at the University of Passo Fundo were collected and the retreatments reviewed in relation to the occurrence and criteria associated with the indicated decisions. Results: Teeth of patients who are undergoing treatment and have restorations with some failure (n=552) were evaluated, and of these, 83.88% of the restorations were replaced. And, teeth of patients who underwent restorative treatment a few years ago, and are currently inactive (n=387), 92% of failed restorations were replaced. Thus, in the evaluated medical records, there was an increase in repairs for restorations in retracted teeth (from 8% to 16%). Conclusion: Faced with restorations that fail, dentists should have enough knowledge to diagnose and indicate the correct treatment to their patient. However, it was observed in the present study that there are no clear criteria for restorative decisions, and that these uncertainties imply additional and less conservative treatments, which is due to the lack of established clinical protocols. It was noted that the performance of repairs in restoration failures has increased, but that even today, the total replacement of restorations is significantly greater in number than the repairs that are performed. |
