Summary: | The literature about Performance Measurement Systems applied to the transport has been poorly investigated the theoretical properties which indicators must accomplish in accordance with the Theory of Representation principles. Seeking to fill this theoretical gap, this study raised the main performance indicators applied to transport through a systematic literature review, complemented by a multiple case study and assessed the impact that non- compliance with the principles proposed by the Theory of Representation has been on Performance Measurement Systems applied to transportation. The study showed that several performance indicators widely employed in the literature do not meet specific principles, which may cause these indicators to present difficulties during implementation and monitoring. As a result of this study, it will be possible to develop methods for construction of Performance Measurement Systems in transport more efficiently in order to achieve one’s goals and methods more aligned with the strategy of organizations. Thus, it is expected to contribute to studies related to the cargo transportation sector in Brazil, a very important area to the country's development. |
