Summary: | This study examines documents related to the financial education initiatives of institutions in Brazil, the United States and Portugal, presenting the concepts of information literacy and financial literacy. It employs a qualitative approach as a comparative study and assesses the documents produced by these countries regarding the financial education of their citizens. Points to a lack in the promotion of this knowledge among the citzens. Presents projects already undertaken by librarians in the analysed countries as alternatives for promoting financial literacy in Brazil. Highlights the scarcity of research on the subject among Brazilian Library Science academics and proposes the advancing discussions to enhance the contribution of public libraries for the financial literacy of Brazilians. Reveals that public libraries do not recieve proper attention of the Brazilian program for financial education, diferent from the Portuguese and American cases. |
