Summary: | This dissertation aims to identify aspects of contemporary product design in Latin America, in order to recognize some of its characteristics. Part of a study of recognition that aims to highlight aspects in the sense of diversification, similarities, affinities, re-signification of languages and recurrent elements that can denote relevance by theorists, understandings or similar studies. Cultural, technological, temporal and material aspects of anthropological, sociological, projective, configuration and semantic aspects are investigated, among others, in selected projects, mostly bibliographical and documentary sources, related to selected projects and experiments, and author and specialists. Of exploratory nature the research is developed from two sections, in the first are collected information regarding the historical processes of the product design in the region. Subsequently, and from the elements found are made joints, exploring and approached concepts and interpretations of contemporary Latin American design, from the deepening of several critical positions of authors such as Nestor Canclini, Walter Mignolo, Gerardo Mosquera, Gui Bonsiepe, Milton Santos and Oscar Salinas Flores, among others, through which were analyzed concerns, languages and procedures of design in the region. To this end, they are presented with greater emphasis on selected productions and projects of exponents of the Latin American design, among them: The Chilean studio GT2p, the Brazilian designer Guto Requena, the Chilean Group Documentary design GBR, the Colombian group Dosuno Design, and others. The different analyses performed, discover ambiguities around the idea of identity used locally and globally as an active aspect in the relation of design to territory. In the same way it was revealed as cross-links of different types, cultural, technological, material and others, are determinant in the projection of the various products. This process was synthesized on the concept of "hybridization " as a way to create a guideline for the interpretation of the selected examples. It can be said that Latin American product design is passing through a moment of effervescence, diversification and influence in the processes of expansion of the various countries, thanks in great part to the strength of individual productions, and partly through commercial and state recognition. The expression of design is thus full of contrasts and contradictions, its volume and extension constantly increase, aligned with the situations that require each context. Thus, we open up ways to continue deepening the study and analysis of the exuberant and rich material that Latin American design produces. |
