Résumé: Discrimination against people on the basis of skin color, by non-blacks, was disseminated by Western culture, which possessed the forms of power, and was supported by supposed scientific religious principles, such as eugenics. Brazilians discriminate against people by race; the most striking antecedent, for its violence, is slavery. This work makes a historical recovery of the origins of racism, reveals the lack of a scientific basis for discriminatory treatment; its consequences for society as a whole are analyzed and, as a case study, it is examined how racism is introduced in schools.
