Summary: This book, the result of a doctoral thesis in anthropology, investigates the incorporation of virtual environments into Jewish culture, including websites, digital platforms and virtual learning environments. The work focuses particularly in the study and conversion programs to Judaism offered 100% online, in addition to mentioning other Jewish websites. Describe and discuss three specific websites for rabbi-mediated conversion to Judaism: Make me Jewish (Convert to Judaism online) by non-Orthodox rabbi Marc Rubenstein, Converting to Judaism by Orthodox Rabbi Gedalia Walls, and Darshan Yeshiva, a rabbinate made up of dozens of rabbis from diverse backgrounds non-Orthodox Jewish denominations. The research is divided into three main axes: 1. Conceptions of digital technologies, cyberspace, cyberculture and cyber-religion. 2. Anthropological theory on cultural genesis, conceptions of culture, Jewish identity and the relationship between Judaism and its ancestry and modernity. 3. Theories on Jewish religious exclusion and inclusion and human plurality. The importance of this research lies in its ability to shed light on the how digital technologies are transforming religious practices traditional. By exploring the offer of conversion to Judaism through online platforms, the study reveals a contemporary phenomenon of religious democratization, where geographic and social barriers are overcome, allowing individuals from different parts of the world to access and participate of rituals and conversion processes previously restricted to contexts face-to-face. Furthermore, the research highlights the relevance of the subject when addressing issues of cultural and religious identity in an increasingly digital world. O Judaism, with its long history and rich traditions, finds itself on the platforms digital a new space of expression and continuity, reflecting both the preservation and adaptation of their practices. Analysis of the differences between orthodox and unorthodox approaches in the use of these technologies highlights the internal diversity of Judaism and the plurality of paths to experience religious. The study also has significant implications for understanding the religious pluralism and inclusion. When discussing how digital platforms can both include and exclude individuals, the research offers a reflection critical review of the challenges and opportunities of cyberspace for religious practice. Overcoming Jewish religious fundamentalism and prejudices, promoted by these new forms of interaction, is a crucial aspect of the debate contemporary about religion and technology. Thus, this book not only documents an emerging phenomenon, but also contributes to the broader dialogue about the role of technology in transformation of religious and cultural practices. By offering an analysis detailed and in-depth websites for conversion to Judaism and its mediation by rabbis, the work becomes essential reading for religious scholars, anthropology, sociology and technology, as well as for anyone interested in the intersection between tradition and modernity in the digital world.

By offering an analysis detailed and in-depth websites for conversion to Judaism and its mediation by rabbis, the work becomes essential reading for religious scholars, anthropology, sociology and technology, as well as for anyone interested in the intersection between tradition and modernity in the digital world.Este livro, fruto de uma tese de doutorado em antropologia, investiga a incorporação das ambiências virtuais na cultura judaica, abrangendo websites, plataformas digitais e ambientes de aprendizagem virtual. A obra foca particularmente nos programas de estudo e conversão ao judaísmo oferecidos 100% online, além de mencionar outros websites judaicos. Descreve e discute três websites específicos para conversão ao judaísmo mediada por rabinos: Make me Jewish (Convert to Judaism online) do rabino não ortodoxo Marc Rubenstein, Converting to Judaism do rabino ortodoxo Gedalia Walls, e Darshan Yeshiva, um rabinato composto por dezenas de rabinos de diversas denominações judaicas não ortodoxas. A pesquisa é dividida em três eixos principais: 1. Concepções das tecnologias digitais, ciberespaço, cibercultura e ciber-religião. 2. Teoria antropológica sobre a gênese cultural, concepções de cultura, identidade judaica e a relação do judaísmo com sua ancestralidade e modernidade. 3. Teorias sobre exclusão e inclusão religiosa judaica e a pluralidade humana. A importância desta pesquisa reside na sua capacidade de lançar luz sobre a maneira como as tecnologias digitais estão transformando práticas religiosas tradicionais. Ao explorar a oferta de conversão ao judaísmo através de plataformas online, o estudo revela um fenômeno contemporâneo de democratização religiosa, onde barreiras geográficas e sociais são superadas, permitindo que indivíduos de diversas partes do mundo acessem e participem de rituais e processos de conversão anteriormente restritos a contextos presenciais. Além disso, a pesquisa destaca a relevância do assunto ao abordar questões de identidade cultural e religiosa em um mundo cada vez mais digital. O judaísmo, com sua longa história e ricas tradições, encontra nas plataformas digitais um novo espaço de expressão e continuidade, refletindo tanto a preservação quanto a adaptação de suas práticas. A análise das diferenças entre as abordagens ortodoxa e não ortodoxa no uso dessas tecnologias evidencia a diversidade interna do judaísmo e a pluralidade de caminhos para a vivência religiosa. O estudo também tem implicações significativas para a compreensão do pluralismo religioso e da inclusão. Ao discutir como as plataformas digitais podem tanto incluir quanto excluir indivíduos, a pesquisa oferece uma reflexão crítica sobre os desafios e oportunidades do ciberespaço para a prática religiosa. A superação de fundamentalismos e preconceitos religiosos judaicos, promovida por essas novas formas de interação, é um aspecto crucial do debate contemporâneo sobre religião e tecnologia. Assim, este livro não apenas documenta um fenômeno emergente, mas também contribui para o diálogo mais amplo sobre o papel da tecnologia na transformação das práticas religiosas e culturais. Ao oferecer uma análise detalhada e profunda dos websites de conversão ao judaísmo e sua mediação por rabinos, a obra se torna uma leitura essencial para estudiosos de religião, antropologia, sociologia e tecnologia, bem como para qualquer pessoa interessada na intersecção entre tradição e modernidade no mundo digital.Sudeste-1application/pdfapplication/pdfporLogos University International (UNILOGOS)Brasilconversion to judaismanthropologyantropologiareligiãoconversão religiosaconversão ao judaísmoantropologia da religiãoconversão ao judaísmo onlineteudat guerutAntropologia da inclusão religiosa judaica - conversão ao judaísmo online: a incorporação dos rituais religiosos judaicos em ambiências virtuaisAnthropology of Jewish religious inclusion - conversion to Judaism online: the incorporation of Jewish religious rituals in virtual environmentsinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/bookLima, Alan Freire deinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Repositório Comum do Brasil - Depositainstname:Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia (Ibict)instacron:IBICTTEXTEbook+Antropologia+da+inclusão+religiosa+judaica.pdf.txtWritten by FormatFilter org.dspace.app.mediafilter.TikaTextExtractionFilter on 2025-06-06T20:18:23Z (GMT).Extracted texttext/plain102917https://deposita.ibict.br/bitstreams/6277d405-7949-41a0-b25a-7543fe96e473/download61dc4270b863b1805136e2a754f77cf0MD53falseAnonymousREADTHUMBNAILEbook+Antropologia+da+inclusão+religiosa+judaica.pdf.jpgWritten by FormatFilter org.dspace.app.mediafilter.PDFBoxThumbnail on 2025-06-06T20:18:23Z (GMT).Generated Thumbnailimage/jpeg6451https://deposita.ibict.br/bitstreams/1c077ecc-286d-4397-97c1-02c59780858e/downloadb5ac2226f99230ed2f527bc589b5af14MD54falseAnonymousREADLICENSElicense.txtWritten by org.dspace.content.LicenseUtilstext/plain;
