Resumo: This research has as its theme the development of the language of children of 3 and 4 years of a school of Early Childhood Education in the city of Campo Bom/ RS, through a pedagogical proposal focused on the work with children's literature, with the objective of verifying to what extent literary activities contribute to the emergent literacy of these children, through the creation and application of a reading script and participation in other moments of reading and storytelling by students. First, the emerging literacy scale was applied to the research participants, in order to discover what knowledge they already had about the literate world. Finally, it was analyzed whether the activities made the students evolve in relation to the components of the scale. At the end of the research, the students demonstrated that they had more consolidated oral language skills, expanded their vocabularies, improved their narrative constructions, showed great interest in literary proposals, went from listeners to storytellers and acquired knowledge about the world of writing.
