Résumé: Five-a-side football is a sports modality adapted for people with visual impairment who have the characteristic intermittency of effort during the match, requiring high demands of aerobic and anaerobic metabolisms. The main objective of the study was to evaluate the cardiorespiratory ability of football players of five-a-side football. Secondarily we sought to assess the validity of an indirect method for the estimation for cardiorespiratory ability in this population group. Methods: A sectional study involving 8 five-a-side football players was realized (Football-5; median age=26 minimum=17 and maximum=30 years) and 7 futsal or football society seers players (Football-5; median age=25 minimum=20 and maximum=33 years). The cardiorespiratory ability was measured and evaluated through the completion of cardiopulmonary exercise testing (TCE), on treadmill, with the ramp protocol. The estimation of the cardiorespiratory ability was done by conducting the test Shuttle Run of 20-m.The intergroup comparisons was conducted through the test Mann-Whitney and intergroups was through the test Wilcoxon, both with simulation of Monte Carlo (α=5%). The Shuttle Run 20-m validity was checked by the intraclass correlation coefficient (CCI) and the Altman and Bland approach (SPSS 13.0 for Windows and Microsoft Office Excel 2007). Results: On TCE, the five-a-side football players showed lower uptake of oxygen (VO2) of peak, total effort time, speed at the end of the test, and these differences are statistically significant. Similarly, in the Shuttle Run of 20-m test the players showed worse performance, with a lower speed values achieved at the end of the test, distance and VO2 estimated. As test Shuttle Run 20-m validity, the players showed higher median values of VO2 in TCE (measured) relative to the Shuttle Run of 20-m (estimated) (p<0,05). Despite the differences between the methods are within the limits, calculated in the approach of Altman and Bland, players showed systematically higher values in TCE. The CCI demonstrated a moderate validity between methods. Conclusion: The five-a-side football players showed lower cardiorespiratory ability to athletes seers football either by TCE or Shuttle Run of 20-m. The Shuttle Run of 20-m test did not appear as a valid method for estimating oxygen uptake in this population group.

O objetivo principal do estudo foi avaliar a capacidade cardiorrespiratória de jogadores de futebol de cinco. Secundariamente buscou-se avaliar a validade de um método indireto para a estimativa da capacidade cardiorrespiratória nesse grupo populacional. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo seccional em que participaram 08 jogadores de futebol de cinco (FUT-5; idade mediana=26; mínimo=17 e máximo=30 anos) e 07 jogadores de futsal ou futebol society videntes (FUT-V; idade mediana=25; mínimo=20 e máximo=33 anos). A capacidade cardiorrespiratória foi medida e avaliada através da realização do teste cardiopulmonar de esforço (TCE), em esteira rolante, com o protocolo de rampa. A estimativa da capacidade cardiorrespiratória foi feita através da realização do teste de Shuttle Run de 20-m. As comparações inter grupos foram feitas através do teste de Mann-Whitney e intra grupos através do teste de Wilcoxon, ambos com simulação de Monte Carlo (α=5%). A validade do Shuttle Run de 20-m foi verificada através do coeficiente de correlação intraclasse (CCI) e da abordagem de Altman e Bland (SPSS 13.0 for Windows e Microsoft Office Excel 2007). Resultados: No TCE, os jogadores de FUT-5 apresentaram menores consumo de oxigênio (VO2) de pico, tempo total de esforço, velocidade no final do teste, sendo essas diferenças estatisticamente significativas. De maneira semelhante, no teste de Shuttle Run de 20-m os jogadores de FUT-5 apresentaram pior desempenho, com valores inferiores de velocidade alcançada no final do teste, distância percorrida e VO2 estimado. Quanto à validade do teste de Shuttle Run de 20-m, os jogadores de FUT-5 apresentaram maiores valores medianos de VO2 no TCE (medido) em relação ao Shuttle Run de 20-m (estimado) (p<0,05). Apesar das diferenças entre os métodos estarem dentro dos limites de concordância, calculados na abordagem de Altman e Bland, os jogadores de FUT-5 apresentaram sistematicamente maiores valores no TCE. O CCI demonstrou uma validade moderada entre os métodos. Conclusão: Os jogadores de FUT-5 apresentaram a capacidade cardiorrespiratória inferior aos atletas de futebol videntes, seja através do TCE, seja através do Shuttle Run de 20-m.
