Summary: This article aims to analyze the main ideological influences in the Republican campaign and the early years of the establishment of the republican institution in Brazil. The space occupied in the propaganda by ideologies other than the most famous one (positivism), such as American liberalism and French Jacobinism, appealed for political participation in the new regime, expressed through frequently repeated words like freedom and democracy. The establishment of the Republic became synonymous with democracy, freedom, and progress, while the Monarchy became synonymous with archaic, backwardness, and authoritarianism. In the end, an oligarchic Republic was installed, leading to dissatisfaction with the political direction the country took.

El espacio ocupado en la propaganda por ideologías distintas a las más famosas (positivismo), como el liberalismo estadounidense y el jacobinismo francés, presentaban como llamado central el anhelo por la participación política en el nuevo régimen, expresado en palabras repetidas con frecuencia, como libertad y democracia. La instalación de la República se convirtió en sinónimo de democracia, libertad y progreso, mientras que la Monarquía se convirtió en sinónimo de obsoleto, atraso y autoritarismo. Al final, se estableció una República oligárquica y se generó descontento con el rumbo político que el país tomó.Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar as principais influências ideológicas na campanha republicana, e nos primeiros anos de instalação da instituição republicana no Brasil. O espaço ocupado na propaganda por ideologias outras, que não as mais famosas (positivismo), tais como o liberalismo norte-americano e o jacobinismo francês, traziam como apelo central a ânsia pela participação política no novo regime, inscritas em palavras bastante repetidas como liberdade e democracia. A instalação da República tornou-se sinônimo de democracia, liberdade e progresso, enquanto a Monarquia tornou-se sinônimo de arcaico, atraso e autoritarismo.
