The implementation of federal law no. 10.639/2003: the teaching of African history and Afro-Brazilian culture and its unfolding in the school context

Summary: This study aims to discuss the mechanisms that contributed to the implementation of Law 10.639/2003 and its consequences in the school context, as well as to analyze the teaching practice. To meet the objective, we analyzed official documents, delved into the bibliographies that support this theme, especially in the studies of Gomes (2003; 2006; 2007; 2012), Gusmão (2012), Ramos (2003), Nascimento (2003), Silva (2003; 2007). This study showed that to the extent that there is the promotion of racial equality, respect for differences, social justice, added to the positive contents of African and Afro-Brazilian culture, advances are perceived in the fight against racism in the school context in three Brazilian municipalities: Porto Seguro – BA, Vitória da Conquista – BA and São Carlos – SP.

Para cumplir con el objetivo, analizamos documentos oficiales, profundizamos en las bibliografías que apoyan este tema, especialmente en los estudios de Gomes (2003; 2006; 2007; 2012), Gusmão (2012), Ramos (2003), Nascimento (2003), Silva (2003; 2007). Este estudio mostró que en la medida en que hay promoción de la igualdad racial, respeto por las diferencias, justicia social, sumado a los contenidos positivos de la cultura africana y afrobrasileña, se perciben avances en la lucha contra el racismo en el contexto escolar en tres municipios brasileños: Porto Seguro – BA, Vitória da Conquista – BA y São Carlos – SP. Este estudo tem como objetivo discutir os mecanismos que contribuíram para a implementação da Lei 10.639/2003 e os seus desdobramentos no contexto escolar, bem como analisar a prática docente. Para atender o objetivo, analisamos documentos oficiais, mergulhamos nas bibliografias que suportam essa temática, principalmente nos estudos de Gomes (2003; 2006; 2007; 2012), Gusmão (2012), Ramos (2003), Nascimento (2003), Silva (2003; 2007). Este estudo evidenciou que, na medida em que ocorre o fomento pela igualdade racial, respeito pelas diferenças, justiça social, somados aos conteúdos positivados da cultura africana e afro-brasileira, percebe-se avanços no combate ao racismo no contexto escolar, em três municípios brasileiros: Porto Seguro – BA, Vitória da Conquista – BA e São Carlos – SP.
