This final paper has as its object of study the Cardoso family residence, built in the city of Santaluz, Bahia, between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Currently, the building is in an alarming state of conservation due to the effects of bad weather and the lack of periodic maintenance. The main objective is to develop an architectural analysis and a diagnosis of degradation based on the principles recognized by some of the main theorists of Conservation and Restoration: Viollet-le-Duc, Camillo Boito, Cesare Brandi and Gustavo Giovannoni. The methodology covers three stages: bibliographic and documentary research, field research and descriptive research. Once belonging to the family of the first mayor, the building is considered one of the most important witnesses to the origins of Santaluz. Therefore, it is necessary, through principles disseminated in the field of Conservation and Restoration, to place the building in a satisfactory condition of preservation.
