Generally, contemporary cinema has given an “artificial vision” of urban architecture which produces on the spectator new forms of perception and feeling about the world. This has a direct relationship with a complex representation system that has been continually subordinated to the process of media power and its modes of production and circulation of images and clichés that reproduce “pre-established truths”. This paper discuss about the concepts of post-modernism and spectacle within the context of the architectonic space of the modern city in the cinema. Through the analysis of the aesthetic and narrative tendencies of the Contemporary American Cinema in producing spectacular visual effects, which in themselves are a response, in the opinion of some authors, to postmodernism, this paper tries to understand how this new tendency influences on the process of constructing a new aesthetic for representing urban space.
