Therefore, eco-innovative adaptation strategies to improve farmed fish resilience are urgently needed. Macroalgae are rich in bioactive compounds with several biological activities and their potential as functional ingredients has recently attracted considerable interest. This study aimed to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with Asparagopsis taxiformis on fitness, hematocrit levels and immune response of juvenile white seabream (Diplodus sargus) exposed to a MHW. Fish were fed four experimental diets (0%, 1.5%, 3% and 6% of dried powdered A. taxiformis) for 30 days (T30) and exposed to a category II (strong) MHW for 15 days (T52), followed by 8 days of recovery period (T59). Results showed that A. taxiformis supplementation had no effect on fish fitness and immune response after 30 days. After the MHW, peroxidase activity increased in fish supplemented with 1.5% A. taxiformis, while hematocrit levels decreased in all treatments. During the recovery period, the levels returned to normal, particularly in fish supplemented with A. taxiformis. In addition, immunoglobulin M content and peroxidase activity showed a dose-dependent response to supplementation, indicating that 1.5% was the most effective level.
