Its electronics were manufactured in the late 1990s to last ten years. Now, twenty years later, the components are obsolete and damaged by the radiation. To mitigate these issues, the ATLAS Portuguese team proposed a new high voltage distribution system that would be located out side the detector. The electronic components of this remote system would not be subject to the radiation of the detector’s cave and it would be of easy access for any future action on the system. A pair of boards (HVRemote and Power Supplies boards) is used in this system to supply the dedicated high voltage to 48 photomultipliers (PMTs) of the calorimeter. The HVRemote board distributes individually calibrated high voltage to the 48 PMTs. The Power Supplies board uses DC/DC converters to generate the high voltage (HV) to the PMTs and low voltages necessary for the HVRemote needs. These pairs of boards are connected in crates, each crate has a Midplane that connects 16 pairs of these boards to each other. The digital crate control was made on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) commercial development board. The crate also has primary low voltage sources to supply the Power Supplies board. This work focuses on the development of a test system for this remote high voltage distribution system allowing to test its boards individually. The test system will consist of Reading boards to read dynamically the high voltage distributed by the HVRemote boards as well as the con sumption of the low voltage primary sources of the crate. The board will allow readings using a voltmeter and analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). To control this functional test board a Raspberry Pi is used with the communication being made using the serial peripheral interface (SPI) communication protocol. A graphical user interface (GUI) was also developed in Python 3.7 using the Python library PyQT5.
