Objetivo: Revisão sistemática do conceitos de Ciclo Vital da Família, identificando os diversos modelos teóricos, assim como a sua pertinência e limitações do ponto de vista teórico e clínico. Metodologia: Foi realizada uma revisão de literatura recorrendo à base de dados JSTOR e à biblioteca do Instituto Superior Miguel Torga. A pesquisa foi realizada no ano de 2017 entre os meses de janeiro e junho. A pesquisa integrou trabalhos publicados entre o ano de 1930 até ao ano de 2017. Os descritores para a pesquisa foram “family life cycle”. Foram selecionados 82 artigos numa primeira fase e depois de refinada a análise a amostra final integrou 45 artigos e 3 livros referentes ao conceito. Resultados e conclusões: Os 44 artigos e 3 livros foram agrupados de acordo com os seguintes temas: modelos de CV da família nuclear intacta (13 artigos) modelos de CVF provenientes da prática clínica (2 artigos e 3 livros), modelos de CV de outras formas de família (1 artigo), modelos de CVF de outros países ( 9 artigos), modelos desenvolvimentais alternativos ao CVF (2 artigos) e discussão dos resultados (19 artigos). O conceito de CVF é útil para a compreensão das famílias, sobretudo em contexto clínico. Permite traçar trajetórias sobre as fases e pontos críticos que comummente as famílias atravessam, apresenta uma visão desenvolvimental que integra o indivíduo, a família e as relações entre estes e o contexto ecológico e incluí a perspetiva transgeracional do desenvolvimento dos seus elementos ao longo das fases. Apresenta algumas limitações: o conceito de CVF foi desenvolvido tendo em conta a família nuclear intacta (maioria de classe média branca dos EUA); os modelos não se aplicam à diversidade de formas de família existentes e que foram emergindo ao longo do tempo; a definição de família e as etapas e tarefas do CVF são culturalmente pontuadas; os modelos atuais de CVF baseiam-se na prática clínica e não existem estudos que analisem o percurso das famílias que não recorrem à terapia/ famílias comuns. / Objective: A systematic review of the concepts of the Family Life Cycle, identifying the different theoretical models, as well as their pertinence and limitations from a theoretical and clinical point of view. Methodology: A literature review was carried out using the JSTOR database and the Instituto Superior Miguel Torga library. The survey was conducted in the year 2017 between the months of January and June. The research included papers published between the year 1930 and the year 2017. The descriptors for the research were "family life cycle". In a first phase 82 articles were selected and after refining the analysis the final sample included 45 articles and 3 books referring to the concept. Results and conclusions: The 44 articles and 3 books were grouped according to the following themes: FLC models of the intact nuclear family (13 articles) FLC models from clinical practice (2 articles and 3 books), FLC models about other types of family (1 article), FLC models in other countries (9 articles), alternative developmental models to the FLC (2 articles) and discussion of results (19 articles). The concept of FLC is useful for the understanding of families, especially in a clinical context.. It allows tracing trajectories about the stages and critical points that families pass through, presenting a developmental view that integrates the individual, the family and the relationships between them and the ecological context, and including a transgenerational perspective of the development of its elements throughout the stages. It presents some limitations: the concept of FLC was developed taking into account the intact nuclear family (majority of USA white middle class), the models do not apply to the diversity of existing types of family that have emerged over time, the definition of family and the FLC's stages and tasks are culturally punctuated; the current FLC models are based on clinical practice and there are no studies that analyze the course of families that don’t do therapy / regular families.
