Summary: Introduction: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common neoplasms in the elderly population, worsened by factors such as sarcopenia, hospitalization, and the functional implications of oncological surgery. Objective: To evaluate the functional performance and self-perceived health of CRC patients undergoing surgery. Methods: This dissertation was a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, conducted at Ana Nery Hospital in Santa Cruz do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, between October 2024 and April 2025. The convenience sample included 24 CRC patients undergoing oncological surgery, aged 18 years or older. Data collection was based on pre- and postoperative assessments. The instruments used to measure functional performance, sarcopenia risk, and self-perceived health were: PS-ECOG scale, SARC-CalF questionnaire, gait speed, 1-minute sit-to-stand test, and subjective question about health status. Results: The results were presented in two scientific papers, the first entitled: "Impact of colorectal surgery on the functional performance of individuals with cancer," found on page 26. The second was based on a systematic literature review, already published in the Brazilian Journal of Health Review, as per the link https://ojs.brazilianjournals.com.br/ojs/index.php/BJHR/article/view/79666, which is on page 27. The results indicate that functional performance was impacted after surgery, especially in the postoperative period. However, a favorable outcome regarding sarcopenia was observed, with a low incidence of this condition among the patients evaluated. Conclusion: Strategies that combine nutritional support, physical exercise, and continuous monitoring of sarcopenia should be incorporated into clinical practice, with a focus on preserving functionality and improving the quality of life of patients with colorectal cancer.
