Contribuições da teoria de Formação e Desenvolvimento de Coleções para o aprimoramento do Programa Nacional Biblioteca da Escola (PNBE)

Gaia: | Considering the importance of the formation of appropriate collections in school libraries that correspond to the institution's objectives and satisfy the information needs of the community, this paper aims to present contributions for the improvement of the Programa Nacional Biblioteca da Escola (PNBE) in view of Librarianship’s theory of Collection Development. Regarding methodology, the research can be characterized as applied, descriptive and qualitative. It was used the documentary research as a technical procedure in which the object was the “Edital de convocação para inscrição e seleção de obras de literatura para o Programa Nacional Biblioteca da Escola: PNBE 2015”. For the content analysis of the edict it was constructed a table with theoretical categories that was elaborated from the Librarianship’s theory about politics and selection activity inside the process of Collection Development. The table displayed how each category is treated in both FDC theory and PNBE. The following results are obtained: transfer of responsibility for the initial selection of the books that is made by the editors to the PNBE professionals in charge of the selection; constitution of a deliberative committee with the presence of teachers and librarians from various regions of the country; and inclusion of the criterion of authority in the set of criteria used by the program. It should be noted that the current format of the program makes it impossible to use other identified procedures. It ends by suggesting some changes in the PNBE format that would allow for its improvement. |
