Resumo: ABSTRATC The research analyses the Quebra-Bondes, a large protest which took place in Salvador in 1930, against public authorities and Linha Circular, a company monopolizing electricity, public transportation and telephone in Bahian capital. Revealing the roots of popular dissatisfaction against the company, the thesis identifies problems in those three sectors, understanding them in the general context of day-to-day life in Salvador between 1926 and 1930. Another source of dissatisfaction was reform, especially in public contracts held by Linha Circular, during the municipal government of Francisco Souza (1928-1930) and state government of Vital Soares (1928-1930). The Quebra-Bondes, being a response to the Great Depression impacts on Salvador, resulted also of the 1929-1930 political context, framed by presidential and state elections.
