Sammanfattning: Geotourism emerges as a global trend in terms of sustainable tourism modality, especially in geopark territories. It contributes to a better understanding of geological aspects through its interpretation, being able to complement the visitor's experience and also become a source of income for a local population. The municipalities in the northern part of the Projeto Geoparque Costões e Lagunas do Rio de Janeiro (PGCLRJ), a saber: Quissamã, Campos dos Goytacazes, São João da Barra and São Francisco de Itabapoana have a geological, historical, cultural and ecological diversity, which can favor the development of geotourism. Thus, the goal of this thesis is to assess the geodiversity and geotourism potential in the municipalities, so that the local geodiversity and the PGCLRJ are increasingly known. For this, the following steps were carried out: a) general recognition of the study area through consultation of the published bibliography; b) dedicated field work updating the location of places that fit into a geotouristic bias; c) quantitative assessment of potential tourist use and attractiveness; and, d) application of questionnaires with representatives of municipalities and conservation units to assess the potential to develop actions related to geotourism; and, e) preparation of a geotouristic itinerary. The tourism segments that stand out the most are: Sun and Beach Tourism, Cultural Tourism, Business and Events Tourism, and Ecotourism, the latter more evident in the territories of the conservation units. 24 attractions were selected with the most diverse attributes, from places with geological, biological, historical, architectural and cultural aspects. These can complement the existing tourist market and bring benefits to a local population. The study area has geological heritage with an aesthetic highlight, the geological significance can be understood by visitors, there is a low risk of degradation as a result of human activities and there is infrastructure to receive visitors. The geotouristic potential is not limited to the selected attractions, but is also reflected in the number of activities available, such as: festivities and cultural events, cultural and ecological tours, hiking trails, climbing, free flight jumps, cycling, wildlife observation, various water sports, boat trips, etc. The stimulus given by the PGCLRJ, in the form of geotouristic itineraries in the municipalities within its territory, can help transform tourist activity in qualitative and economic terms, in addition to contributing to the development of geotourism.
